A Jeep fuel tank fire in a rear-end collision could prove fatal for victims who may become trapped in the burning car. In a rear-end crash, the exposed fuel tank could suffer a detrimental puncture that causes gas leaks, fires and/or explosions. FCA’s engineers placed the fuel tank behind the rear axle and in front of the bumper, leading to a partially exposed tank that is highly vulnerable in a rear-end collision.
